Back Online

Look who's back online!
Jayson took another step towards normalcy. This afternoon, he asked for his laptop and began chatting with some of his friends.  Then in the evening, he played League of Legends online with his friends from Murrieta & Temecula.  If you've ever played this game, you know it's a complicated game.  As I watched him, his eyes were wide-eyed and I noticed that his heart rate was more elevated.  The focus look on his face reminded me of the many times I've seen him in his room, lying in bed with his laptop on his lap and with his earphones on.  He used to spend most of his time playing on his laptop and I used to tell him to get off of it and go outside or do something else. But now, the sight of him playing on his laptop is a welcome sight and something I have hoped to see again. I'm sure his friends were not only surprised and excited to see him online once again, but happy to be playing with him just like old times.

After I had posted Jayson's story yesterday of seeing Jesus and his Tita Anna, I asked him to tell the story to his Uncle Jerry and two cousins when they arrived.  After hearing it, they were happy and comforted to hear his story.  About a few hours later, my sister and I tried to get more details from Jayson. I asked him again if Jesus told him to "Go back my child. You will overcome this." and he said "No." He corrected me and said Jesus told him "Go back my child for I love you." I told him it was still a beautiful message and my sister asked if this happened in his room.  He told us they were all somewhere else. When we asked "where?” he described it as a "blank room".  We asked if he was able to hug Jesus & Tita Anna and he said he didn't because they were far away. I asked him what his Tita Anna was wearing and he described it as a "white gown". Just the image of Jesus & my sister talking to Jayson in a "blank room" is comforting to me and confirmation of what I've always felt; Jesus and Joanna have been watching over him.

Another trip outdoor with family.
Later that afternoon, we took Jayson outside once again.  This time we were accompanied by his Uncle Jerry, Tita Net, sisters, grandparents and little cousins. We took a different route, going through the ground level and through the hallway that was lined up with pictures of the different U.S. monument sites such as the Lincoln Monument, Vietnam Memorial Wall and Arizona Memorial to name a few. Once out of Bldg. 1, we passed by the NMCSD Chapel and headed to the Healing Garden here at the hospital compound. It was a beautiful garden with a serene waterfall. We took some group pictures with Jayson to share with you. It was another beautiful day and Jayson enjoyed being in the sunshine.

Walking to the Healing Garden

The next stop was the Fisher House. Jayson had wanted to see the place we were staying at and often mentioned to him. Jayson's dad was sleeping at the Fisher House at the time, so I knocked at the side door and told him he had a visitor. He was surprised to see Jayson just outside the door in his wheel chair.  I wished I had capture Henry's facial expression on camera, it was just priceless. After surprising his dad, we went to the main entrance and gave Jayson a tour of the living & dining area of the house. We then took him to our suite to show him the two rooms we slept in. After 30 minutes, he was ready to head back to his room.

Childhood friends from Great Lakes, IL
On our way back to Bldg. 1, we ran into some family friends who were there to visit Jayson. We all went back to his room so that he can chat with his friends. In the evening more childhood friends came over to visit. Jayson was tired and wasn't able to talk to him as much as they wanted, but they each received a hug from him when they arrived.

During the night, Henry & I took turns watching Jayson. He was given Ambien orally to sleep instead of the medication through his IV. It took a while for the Ambien to take effect and when it did, he only slept about 2 hours. He woke up and asked for his cell phone. After checking his text messages, he asked for another dose of Ambien.  I said he couldn't get another one yet and to just try to sleep.  He did so after only 10 minutes.  The rest of the night was quiet and he was asleep most of the time.

This morning, he was awake and more alert.  He had a bit of a cough but was given a spray to help suppress his cough.  I met with his medical team again this morning as they did their rounds. Again, we gathered at the entrance of Jayson's room.  There were no new changes to Jayson's condition.  His bone marrow is still not producing blood. His doctors are working to get Jayson home this week while his condition is stable.  They don't know how long this window of opportunity to get Jayson home will be and they don't want to miss it. They will work with his social worker and other hospital staff to make sure Jayson will have all the equipment, medication and supplies he'll need while he's home. We should have a better idea tomorrow if this will be possible, and if so, when it will be. Jayson is already looking forward to coming home again.

Jayson has worked so hard to get to where he is now.  His determination and drive to help himself get better is obvious when I see him doing his exercise in bed and it has paid off as we see his progress. Going home was a major motivation for him and we hope that he'll be able to go home once again.

We want to send out a special thanks to Jayson's friend, Taryn and her mom for getting some shirts made to show support for Jayson. It says "You're our Hero!" "We Love You, JAYSON" and has a photo of Jayson. If you look at the picture at the very top of this post, Jayson has one on. It's very uplifting to see family and friends do all they can to support Jayson.  He is truly blessed by you.
