Jayson's Progress Continues

The sun is shining once again after yesterday's gloomy day. Jayson continues to improve the past two days and is making progress.

Jayson has been able to eat more and more each day.  In the last 24 hours he was able to take 3 servings of the nutrition milkshake (Boost/Ensure). This was the goal in order for the doctors to stop the fluid with the nutrition that Jayson was getting through his IV.  As I mentioned before, it's better for his body to process food the way it was designed to, so eating and drinking solid food will help his liver and him.  He still enjoys his smoothie every day. He's tried the mango/pineapple flavor, but didn't like it as much.  He's sticking to the banana/strawberry smoothie and we always have one in the freezer ready for when he asks for it.

Jayson's respiratory system is another area where he's improving.  The Vapotherm settings have been gradually reduced the past 3 days.  His oxygen flow has gone from 35 LPM (Liters Per Minute) to the goal of 10 LPM.  The respiratory therapist just reduced the oxygen percentage from 40% to 30%. The normal percentage for us is 21%. So, he's getting there.  It's possible that they may put Jayson on a regular nasal cannula to help with his oxygen level. When I spoke to one of his ICU doctor, if he continues this route he may be able to go home. This is amazing considering that just last week this wasn't even a possibility.  We know God has His hand on Jayson's progress and He has the right people at the right time taking care of him.

Yesterday, Oct. 9th, Jayson spent most of the day napping.  He was a bit restless the night before and was therefore not as awake as he had been.  You can tell just by looking at Jayson the following morning if he had a good night's rest the night before.

He is now out of his hospital gown and using his own clothes.  He feels good wearing his own clothes. It's another step towards normality. We only have a few sets of clothes for him, so I will have Kristen bring him more clothes from home this Friday.

Jayson worked with both the occupational therapist and physical therapist yesterday. He was able to do some exercises such as standing up, sitting down and walking around.  He was also able to put on one of his own sock on his foot. He moved to and from a recliner in the morning with some assistance from his nurses. Everyone's been happy with his progress and has been encouraging him.

We have a scheduled family meeting at 1:30 this afternoon with his medical team. We'll have more information later today along with more pictures. Thank you for all your continued prayers.
